This site collects very little, and this page says what. It describes batao.sn and nothing else: the locations catalogue and the professional area live at a different address and have their own terms.

Who is responsible

BATAO Senegal, Centre Yennenga, Centre Socioculturel de Grand Dakar, Rue GD 62, 13000 Dakar, Senegal. Contact: dpo@batao.org.

Which rules apply

Senegalese law 2008-12 of 25 January 2008 on the protection of personal data applies to our processing. Where we process the data of people located in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation applies as well, and we then apply whichever of the two offers the higher level of protection.

What we collect

Simply reading this site leaves us nothing that could identify you. Our traffic measurement works on truncated IP addresses and writes nothing to your device: the details are in the cookie policy.

We only receive personal data when you give it to us:

  • your email address, if you sign up to our newsletter;
  • your name, your contact details and the content of your message, if you write to us or call us;
  • the information you send us when you propose a filming location. That particular case is explained in full in Your locations, your data.

Why, and on what basis

We use your email address to send you the newsletter, on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw with one click from any of our mailings. We process your messages in order to answer them and move your request forward. We measure the site's traffic to learn what is being read, on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving what we publish.

Who has access

Your data is accessible to the BATAO team, and to two technical providers acting on our instructions: Brevo, which sends the newsletter from servers located in the European Union, and OVH, which hosts the site. We sell nothing and pass nothing on for advertising purposes.

When a production takes an interest in a location listed in the catalogue, your contact details are passed on only once you have agreed, and we ask each time.

Where your data is kept

Newsletter and website data is hosted in the European Union. Our working correspondence passes through Senegal and Belgium. Where a transfer to another country becomes necessary, it is covered by contractual safeguards.

For how long

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Messages and enquiries: three years after our last exchange.
  • Traffic statistics: twenty-five months.
  • Location records: for as long as you want to be listed, and no longer.

Security

Exchanges with this site are encrypted. Access to data is limited to the team members who need it. We record no sensitive data and we make no automated decisions about you.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it erased, object to its processing, ask for it to be restricted, obtain a transferable copy, and withdraw consent you have already given at any time. Write to dpo@batao.org: we answer within one month.

If our answer does not satisfy you, you can refer the matter to Senegal's Commission de protection des données personnelles. If you live in the European Union, you can also refer it to the data protection authority in your country.
