A cookie is a small file placed on your computer or phone while you visit a website. It carries an identifier that makes it possible to recognise you from one page to the next, or from one visit to the next.
This site sets none
You can read batao.sn from end to end without a single cookie being written to your device. That is why there is no consent banner: we have nothing to ask you. The choice costs us some precision in our statistics. We accept that.
How we measure traffic
We want to know which pages are read and from which countries, so we can decide what to write next. We use Matomo, open-source software installed on our own servers, configured to write nothing to your device and read nothing from it.
In practice:
- your IP address is truncated before it is recorded, which makes it impossible to trace back to you;
- the measurements are used only to produce aggregate statistics, for us alone;
- they are never sold, passed to a third party, or matched against other files;
- they cannot follow your browsing on any site other than this one;
- if your browser sends the Do Not Track signal, measurement is switched off.
The newsletter
The sign-up form at the foot of every page is provided by Brevo, our mailing provider, whose servers are located in the European Union. We have checked that it sets no cookie on this site. It passes on the email address you type into it, and nothing else. What happens to that address is set out in our privacy policy.
The professional area
The locations catalogue and the area reserved for industry professionals live at a different address from this site. When you sign in there, a session cookie is set to keep you identified for the length of your visit. Without it, signing in would not work: that is all it does, it measures nothing and it disappears when you sign out. That cookie stays attached to that address and is never readable from batao.sn.
Taking control
There is nothing for you to refuse here, but your browser lets you block cookies from every site, erase those already stored, or warn you each time one is set. You will find these settings under your browser's privacy preferences.
